Panchakarma is a unique, natural, holistic treatment that cleanses the body’s deep tissues of toxins, opens the subtle channels, and brings energy thereby increasing vitality, inner peace, confidence and well-being. It is recommended on a seasonal basis, as well as when an individual feels out of balance or is experiencing illness.
What is Panchakarma?
Panchakarma is Ayurveda’s most revered and effective purification and detoxification treatment. It is the cornerstone of Ayurveda’s cleansing and rejuvenating programs. Panchakarma, which in Sanskrit stands for five therapeutic actions, is a cleansing and rejuvenating program for body, mind and consciousness. Although the therapeutic measures may appear quite simple, its effects are extremely powerful to the point that Ayurveda considers it necessary before the beginning of any other therapy. The logic behind this is that the body needs to be cleansed from all impurities before being exposed to a rejuvenation program, just as you would do with any garment before dying it with a new color or a piece of furniture before being polished.
Panchakarma is always performed in three stages: Purva Karma (pre-treatment), Pradhana Karma (primary treatment) and Paschat Karma (post-treatment). The patient who opts for any one of the five therapies must invariably undergo all three stages.
What are the effects of Panchakarma?
By getting rid of the toxic load that we normally carry, the immune system is able to regain its ability for self-healing, which may translate into more power to fight allergies, skin rashes, digestive issues, and many other imbalances. It also helps cleanse the mind, bringing more inner peace and facilitating the communication with our true nature.
So, it is only advisable for specific imbalances?
No, even healthy individuals will greatly benefit from this practice as it reverses the negative effects of stress and can help cells rejuvenate at all levels. Remember that Ayurveda was born as a science of rejuvenation.
Are there any contraindications?
Some strength is required as no detox program should be administered to a very weak person. Other than that, PK is not recommended for pregnant women, kids, or the very elderly.

What is Ayurveda’s take on rejuvenation?
Once a detox process has been carried out, Ayurveda recommends a rejuvenation program (also known as Rasayana) to extend the effects of detoxification and keep the cells clean and healthy. In this way, and contrary to the modern concept of rejuvenation that applies only to our external aspect, RASAYANA seeks to rejuvenate body and mind from the inside out, in a natural and systematic way. The program includes a balanced diet according to each person’s unique constitution, healthy daily habits, recommendations for conscious living, and use of personalized herbal protocols
Are there different types of Rasayana?
Yes, depending on the dosha (constitution) of the person and the type of imbalance, your Ayurvedic clinical specialist will recommend different diets, habits, and herbal protocols for the nervous, reproductive, digestive, immune system, etc.
Where do you offer Panchakarma treatments?
We organize our Panchakarma Detox Retreats in collaboration with the Passadhi Yoga & Ayurveda Retreat Center and the onsite Kamala Ayurveda Center. Passadhi is located 12 km (7.5 miles) from Villa de Leyva, a charming, colonial town located two hours from Bogota, Colombia. It is located in a paradisaical environment, surrounded by majestic mountains, small farms that supply us with organic products, beautiful waterfalls, and lots of silence. The Ayurveda center, inaugurated in 2005, consists of two modern houses with rooms with private bathroom, a covered yoga studio where we facilitate yoga classes, meditation and lectures, an Ayurveda treatment center with two separate rooms, expansive gardens with ponds, organic orchard, and a small temple for meditation and performing rituals.
How many people can do Panchakarma at once in your center?
We are offering retreats for just two participants at a time. This ensures a quiet and safe environment and full attention to our guests.
